Stray Theatre Company presents The Glass Menagerie
In 1930s U.S.A., the Wingfield siblings try to find a place in a hostile world. Out of options, the son must make a choice: his freedom, or his sister. Interweaving themes of sacrifice, memory, and identity, 'The Glass Menagerie' invites us to question what we would give up to be true to ourselves.
Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie is a reflection on the life of the Wingfield family as it teeters on the edge of collapse. Each individual falls deeper into their own neuroses: a mother succumbing to heady embrace of memory; a son caught in a downward spiral; and a daughter cloistered in the world of her glass menagerie.
The play is memory. We see the family only as the son looks back upon them, a final re-enactment of their time together.
